ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ॥
jo tis bhaavai soee karasee ||
He does whatever He pleases.
ਆਪਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਸੀ ॥
aapahu hoaa naa kichh hosee ||
No one has done, or can do anything by himself.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੩॥
naanak naam milai vadiaaee dar saachai pat paaee he ||16||3||
O Nanak, through the Name, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and obtains honor in the Court of the True Lord. ||16||3||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maaroo mahalaa 3 ||
Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਸੀ ॥
jo aaiaa so sabh ko jaasee ||
All who come shall have to depart.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਾਧਾ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
doojai bhaai baadhaa jam phaasee ||
In the love of duality, they are caught by the noose of the Messenger of Death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
satigur raakhe se jan ubare saache saach samaaee he ||1||
Those humble beings who are protected by the True Guru, are saved. They merge into the Truest of the True. ||1||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
aape karataa kar kar vekhai ||
The Creator Himself creates the creation, and watches over it.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
jis no nadar kare soee jan lekhai ||
Thay alone are acceptable, upon whom He bestows His Glance of Grace.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
guramukh giaan tis sabh kichh soojhai agiaanee a(n)dh kamaaee he ||2||
The Gurmukh attains spiritual wisdom, and understands everything. The ignorant ones act blindly. ||2||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਹਸਾ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
manamukh sahasaa boojh na paaee ||
The self-willed manmukh is cynical; he doesn't understand.
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
mar mar ja(n)mai janam gavaaee ||
He dies and dies again, only to be reborn, and loses his life uselessly again.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
guramukh naam rate sukh paaiaa sahaje saach samaaee he ||3||
The Gurmukh is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he find peace, and is intuitively immersed in the True Lord. ||3||
ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੂਰਾ ॥
dha(n)dhai dhaavat man bhaiaa manooraa ||
Chasing after worldly affairs, the mind has become corroded and rusty.
ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
phir hovai ka(n)chan bhetai gur pooraa ||
But meeting with the Perfect Guru, it is transmuted into gold once again.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
aape bakhas lae sukh paae poorai sabad milaaee he ||4||
When the Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then peace is obtained; through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, one is united with Him. ||4||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਰਿ ॥
duramat jhoothee buree buriaar ||
The false and evil-minded are the most wicked of the wicked.
ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
auganiaaree auganiaar ||
They are the most unworthy of the unworthy.
ਕਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
kachee mat pheekaa mukh bolai duramat naam na paaee he ||5||
With false intellect, and insipid words of mouth, evil-minded, they do not obtain the Naam. ||5||
ਅਉਗਣਿਆਰੀ ਕੰਤ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
auganiaaree ka(n)t na bhaavai ||
The unworthy soul-bride is not pleasing to her Husband Lord.
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠੀ ਜੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
man kee joothee jooth kamaavai ||
False-minded, her actions are false.
ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਮੂਰਖਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
pir kaa saau na jaanai moorakh bin gur boojh na paaee he ||6||
The foolish person does not know the excellence of her Husband Lord. Without the Guru, she does not understand at all. ||6||
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਟੀ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
duramat khotee khot kamaavai ||
The evil-minded, wicked soul-bride practices wickedness.
ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਪਿਰ ਖਸਮ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
seegaar kare pir khasam na bhaavai ||
She decorates herself, but her Husband Lord is not pleased.
ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
gunava(n)tee sadaa pir raavai satigur mel milaaee he ||7||
The virtuous soul-bride enjoys and ravishes her Husband Lord forever; the True Guru unites her in His Union. ||7||
ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
aape hukam kare sabh vekhai ||
God Himself issues the Hukam of His Command, and beholds all.
ਇਕਨਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
ikanaa bakhas lae dhur lekhai ||
Some are forgiven, according to their pre-ordained destiny.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
anadin naam rate sach paaiaa aape mel milaaee he ||8||
Night and day, they are imbued with the Naam, and they find the True Lord. He Himself unites them in His Union. ||8||
ਹਉਮੈ ਧਾਤੁ ਮੋਹ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਈ ॥
haumai dhaat moh ras laaee ||
Egotism attaches them to the juice of emotional attachment, and makes them run around.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਵ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
guramukh liv saachee sahaj samaaee ||
The Gurmukh is intuitively immersed in the True Love of the Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
aape melai aape kar vekhai bin satigur boojh na paaee he ||9||
He Himself unites, He Himself acts, and beholds. Without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained. ||9||
ਇਕਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
ik sabad veechaar sadaa jan jaage ||
Some contemplate the Word of the Shabad; these humble beings remain always awake and aware.
ਇਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
ik maaiaa mohi soi rahe abhaage ||
Some are attached to the love of Maya; these unfortunate ones remain asleep.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
aape kare karaae aape hor karanaa kichhoo na jaaee he ||10||
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act; no one else can do anything. ||10||
ਕਾਲੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
kaal maar gur sabad nivaare ||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, death is conquered and killed.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har kaa naam rakhai ur dhaare ||
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
satigur sevaa te sukh paaiaa har kai naam samaaee he ||11||
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained, and one merges in the Name of the Lord. ||11||
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰੈ ਦੇਵਾਨੀ ॥
doojai bhaai phirai devaanee ||
In the love of duality, the world wanders around insane.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
maaiaa mohi dukh maahi samaanee ||
Immersed in love and attachment to Maya, it suffers in pain.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਨਹ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
bahute bhekh karai nah paae bin satigur sukh na paaee he ||12||
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, He is not obtained. Without the True Guru, peace is not found. ||12||
ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
kis no kaheeai jaa aap karaae ||
Who is to blame, when He Himself does everything?
ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
jit bhaavai tit raahi chalaae ||
As He wills, so is the path we take.
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
aape miharavaan sukhadaataa jiu bhaavai tivai chalaaee he ||13||
He Himself is the Merciful Giver of peace; as He wills, so do we follow. ||13||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥
aape karataa aape bhugataa ||
He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer.
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
aape sa(n)jam aape jugataa ||
He Himself is detached, and He Himself is attached.
ਆਪੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
aape niramal miharavaan madhusoodan jis daa hukam na metiaa jaaee he ||14||
He Himself is immaculate, compassionate, the lover of nectar; the Hukam of His Command cannot be erased. ||14||
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
se vadabhaagee jinee eko jaataa ||
Those who know the One Lord are very fortunate.
