ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਮਕੰਕਰਾ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਛਡਿਆ ਏਸੁ ਤਪੇ ਨੋ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜਿ ਪਾਇਹੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਮਹਾ ਮਹਾਂ ਹਤਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
dharam raai jamaka(n)karaa no aakh chhadiaa es tape no tithai khaR paaihu jithai mahaa mahaa(n) hatiaariaa ||
The Righteous Judge of Dharma said to the Messenger of Death, "Take this penitent and put him with the worst of the worst murderers."
ਫਿਰਿ ਏਸੁ ਤਪੇ ਦੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਲਗਹੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹੈ ਫਿਟਕਾਰਿਆ ॥
phir es tape dai muhi koee lagahu naahee ehu satigur hai phitakaariaa ||
No one is to look at the face of this penitent again. He has been cursed by the True Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੁ ਦਯਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
har kai dar varatiaa s naanak aakh sunaaiaa || so boojhai j day savaariaa ||1||
Nanak speaks and reveals what has taken place in the Court of the Lord. He alone understands, who is blessed and adorned by the Lord. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
har bhagataa(n) har aaraadhiaa har kee vadiaaee ||
The devotees of the Lord worship and adore the Lord, and the glorious greatness of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਂਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
har keeratan bhagat nit gaa(n)vade har naam sukhadaaee ||
The Lord's devotees continually sing the Kirtan of His Praises; the Name of the Lord is the Giver of peace.
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੋ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ ॥
har bhagataa(n) no nit naavai dee vadiaaee bakhaseean nit chaRai savaaee ||
The Lord ever bestows upon His devotees the glorious greatness of His Name, which increases day by day.
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੋ ਥਿਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਬਹਾਲਿਅਨੁ ਅਪਣੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
har bhagataa(n) no thir gharee bahaalian apanee paij rakhaaee ||
The Lord inspires His devotees to sit, steady and stable, in the home of their inner being. He preserves their honor.
ਨਿੰਦਕਾਂ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗਸੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਈ ॥
ni(n)dakaa(n) paasahu har lekhaa ma(n)gasee bahu dei sajaaee ||
The Lord summons the slanderers to answer for their accounts, and He punishes them severely.
ਜੇਹਾ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅਪਣੈ ਜੀਇ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਤੇਹੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
jehaa ni(n)dak apanai jeei kamaavade teho phal paaee ||
As the slanderers think of acting, so are the fruits they obtain.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸਰਪਰ ਉਘੜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ਬਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
a(n)dar kamaanaa sarapar ughaRai bhaavai koee bahi dharatee vich kamaaee ||
Actions done in secrecy are sure to come to light, even if one does it underground.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
jan naanak dekh vigasiaa har kee vadiaaee ||2||
Servant Nanak blossoms forth in joy, beholding the glorious greatness of the Lord. ||2||

Pauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
bhagat janaa(n) kaa raakhaa har aap hai kiaa paapee kareeai ||
The Lord Himself is the Protector of His devotees; what can the sinner do to them?
ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਮੂੜ ਗੁਮਾਨੀਆ ਵਿਸੁ ਖਾਧੀ ਮਰੀਐ ॥
gumaan karahi mooR gumaaneeaa vis khaadhee mareeai ||
The proud fool acts in pride, and eating his own poison, he dies.
ਆਇ ਲਗੇ ਨੀ ਦਿਹ ਥੋੜੜੇ ਜਿਉ ਪਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ਲੁਣੀਐ ॥
aai lage nee dih thoRaRe jiu pakaa khet luneeai ||
His few days have come to an end, and he is cut down like the crop at harvest.
ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਤੇਵੇਹੋ ਭਣੀਐ ॥
jehe karam kamaavade teveho bhaneeai ||
According to one's actions, so is one spoken of.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਦਾ ਧਣੀਐ ॥੩੦॥
jan naanak kaa khasam vadaa hai sabhanaa daa dhaneeai ||30||
Glorious and great is the Lord and Master of servant Nanak; He is the Master of all. ||30||

Salok, Fourth Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
manamukh moolahu bhuliaa vich lab lobh aha(n)kaar ||
The self-willed manmukhs forget the Primal Lord, the Source of all; they are caught in greed and egotism.
ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਦਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jhagaRaa karadiaa anadin gudarai sabad na karahi veechaar ||
They pass their nights and days in conflict and struggle; they do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਸੁਧਿ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
sudh mat karatai sabh hir laee bolan sabh vikaar ||
The Creator has taken away all their understanding and purity; all their speech is evil and corrupt.
ਦਿਤੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਅਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੵਾਰੁ ॥
ditai kitai na sa(n)tokheeahi a(n)tar tisanaa bahu agiaan a(n)dhyaar ||
No matter what they are given, they are not satisfied; within their hearts there is great desire, ignorance and darkness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨਾਲੋ ਤੁਟੀ ਭਲੀ ਜਿਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
naanak manamukhaa naalo tutee bhalee jin maaiaa moh piaar ||1||
O Nanak, it is good to break away from the self-willed manmukhs, who have love and attachment to Maya. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਹੈ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
jinaa a(n)dar doojaa bhaau hai tinhaa guramukh preet na hoi ||
Those whose hearts are filled with the love of duality, do not love the Gurmukhs.
ਓਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ohu aavai jaai bhavaaeeai supanai sukh na koi ||
They come and go, and wander in reincarnation; even in their dreams, they find no peace.
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਉਚਰੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
kooR kamaavai kooR ucharai kooR lagiaa kooR hoi ||
They practice falsehood and they speak falsehood; attached to falsehood, they become false.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
maaiaa mohu sabh dukh hai dukh binasai dukh roi ||
The love of Maya is total pain; in pain they perish, and in pain they cry out.
ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਲਿਵੈ ਜੋੜੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
naanak dhaat livai joR na aavaee je lochai sabh koi ||
O Nanak, there can be no union between the love of worldliness and the love of the Lord, no matter how much everyone may desire it.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਪਇਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
jin kau potai pu(n)n paiaa tinaa gurasabadee sukh hoi ||2||
Those who have the treasure of virtuous deeds find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
ਪਉੜੀ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Pauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨਾਂ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਕਹੰਦੇ ॥
naanak veechaarahi sa(n)t mun janaa(n) chaar ved kaha(n)de ||
O Nanak, the Saints and the silent sages think, and the four Vedas proclaim,
ਭਗਤ ਮੁਖੈ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸੇ ਵਚਨ ਹੋਵੰਦੇ ॥
bhagat mukhai te bolade se vachan hova(n)de ||
that whatever the Lord's devotees speak comes to pass.
ਪਰਗਟ ਪਾਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣੰਦੇ ॥
paragat paahaarai jaapade sabh lok suna(n)de ||
He is revealed in His cosmic workshop; all people hear of it.
ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਨਰ ਸੰਤ ਨਾਲਿ ਖਹੰਦੇ ॥
sukh na paain mugadh nar sa(n)t naal khaha(n)de ||
The foolish people, who fight with the Saints, find no peace.
ਓਇ ਲੋਚਨਿ ਓਨਾ ਗੁਣਾ ਨੋ ਓਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਸੜੰਦੇ ॥
oi lochan onaa gunaa no oi aha(n)kaar saRa(n)de ||
The Saints seek to bless them with virtue, but they are burning with egotism.
ਓਇ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਭਾਗ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
oi vechaare kiaa karahi jaa(n) bhaag dhur ma(n)de ||
What can those wretched ones do? Their evil destiny was pre-ordained.
