ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ikOankaar satigur prasaad ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਵੰਞਸੀ ॥
duneeaa na saalaahi jo mar va(n)njasee ||
Do not praise the world; it shall simply pass away.
ਲੋਕਾ ਨ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਖਾਕੁ ਥੀਈ ॥੧॥
lokaa na saalaahi jo mar khaak theeee ||1||
Do not praise other people; they shall die and turn to dust. ||1||
ਵਾਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਵਾਹੁ ॥
vaahu mere saahibaa vaahu ||
Waaho! Waaho! Hail, hail to my Lord and Master.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
guramukh sadaa salaaheeai sachaa veparavaahu ||1|| rahaau ||
As Gurmukh, forever praise the One who is forever True, Independent and Carefree. ||1||Pause||
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਝਿ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥
duneeaa keree dosatee manamukh dajh mara(n)n ||
Making worldly friendships, the self-willed manmukhs burn and die.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨ ਲਾਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥
jam pur badhe maareeahi velaa na laaha(n)n ||2||
In the City of Death, they are bound and gagged and beaten; this opportunity shall never come again. ||2||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੰਨਿ ॥
guramukh janam sakaarathaa sachai sabad laga(n)n ||
The lives of the Gurmukhs are fruitful and blessed; they are committed to the True Word of the Shabad.
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੩॥
aatam raam pragaasiaa sahaje sukh raha(n)n ||3||
Their souls are illuminated by the Lord, and they dwell in peace and pleasure. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥
gur kaa sabad visaariaa doojai bhaai racha(n)n ||
Those who forget the Word of the Guru's Shabad are engrossed in the love of duality.
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਫਿਰੰਨਿ ॥੪॥
tisanaa bhukh na utarai anadin jalat phira(n)n ||4||
Their hunger and thirst never leave them, and night and day, they wander around burning. ||4||
ਦੁਸਟਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
dusataa naal dosatee naal sa(n)taa vair kara(n)n ||
Those who make friendships with the wicked, and harbor animosity to the Saints,
ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਿਉ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੰਨਿ ॥੫॥
aap dube kuta(n)b siu sagale kul doba(n)n ||5||
shall drown with their families, and their entire lineage shall be obliterated. ||5||
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਭਲੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
ni(n)daa bhalee kisai kee naahee manamukh mugadh kara(n)n ||
It is not good to slander anyone, but the foolish, self-willed manmukhs still do it.
ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਨਰਕੇ ਘੋਰਿ ਪਵੰਨਿ ॥੬॥
muh kaale tin ni(n)dakaa narake ghor pava(n)n ||6||
The faces of the slanderers turn black, and they fall into the most horrible hell. ||6||
ਏ ਮਨ ਜੈਸਾ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਤੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
e man jaisaa sevahi taisaa hovahi tehe karam kamaai ||
O mind, as you serve, so do you become, and so are the deeds that you do.
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵਣਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
aap beej aape hee khaavanaa kahanaa kichhoo na jaai ||7||
Whatever you yourself plant, that is what you shall have to eat; nothing else can be said about this. ||7||
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਪਰਥਾਇ ॥
mahaa purakhaa kaa bolanaa hovai kitai parathaai ||
The speech of the great spiritual beings has a higher purpose.
ਓਇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੇ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਇ ॥੮॥
oi a(n)mrit bhare bharapoor hahi onaa til na tamaai ||8||
They are filled to over-flowing with Ambrosial Nectar, and they have absolutely no greed at all. ||8||
ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਘਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੇਨਿ ॥
gunakaaree gun sa(n)gharai avaraa upadesen ||
The virtuous accumulate virtue, and teach others.
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਓਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਨਿ ॥੯॥
se vadabhaagee j onaa mil rahe anadin naam laen ||9||
Those who meet with them are so very fortunate; night and day, they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||9||
ਦੇਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਮੇਦਨੀ ॥
desee rijak sa(n)baahi jin upaaee medanee ||
He who created the Universe, gives sustenance to it.
ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਧਣੀ ॥੧੦॥
eko hai daataar sachaa aap dhanee ||10||
The One Lord alone is the Great Giver. He Himself is the True Master. ||10||
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥
so sach terai naal hai guramukh nadar nihaal ||
That True Lord is always with you; the Gurmukh is blessed with His Glance of Grace.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੧॥
aape bakhase mel lae so prabh sadaa samaal ||11||
He Himself shall forgive you, and merge you into Himself; forever cherish and contemplate God. ||11||
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
man mailaa sach niramalaa kiu kar miliaa jaai ||
The mind is impure; only the True Lord is pure. So how can it merge into Him?
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
prabh mele taa mil rahai haumai sabad jalaai ||12||
God merges it into Himself, and then it remains merged; through the Word of His Shabad, the ego is burnt away. ||12||
ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
so sahu sachaa veesarai dhrig jeevan sa(n)saar ||
Cursed is the life in this world, of one who forgets her True Husband Lord.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
nadar kare naa veesarai guramatee veechaar ||13||
The Lord grants His Mercy, and she does not forget Him, if she contemplates the Guru's Teachings. ||13||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
satigur mele taa mil rahaa saach rakhaa ur dhaar ||
The True Guru unites her, and so she remains united with Him, with the True Lord enshrined within her heart.
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧੪॥
miliaa hoi na veechhuRai gur kai het piaar ||14||
And so united, she will not be separated again; she remains in the love and affection of the Guru. ||14||
ਪਿਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
pir saalaahee aapanaa gur kai sabad veechaar ||
I praise my Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥
mil preetam sukh paaiaa sobhaava(n)tee naar ||15||
Meeting with my Beloved, I have found peace; I am His most beautiful and happy soul-bride. ||15||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਭਿਜਈ ਅਤਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਠੋਰ ॥
manamukh man na bhijaee at maile chit kathor ||
The mind of the self-willed manmukh is not softened; his consciousness is totally polluted and stone-hearted.
ਸਪੈ ਦੁਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਨਿਕੋਰ ॥੧੬॥
sapai dudh peeaaeeai a(n)dar vis nikor ||16||
Even if the venomous snake is fed on milk, it shall still be filled with poison. ||16||
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aap kare kis aakheeai aape bakhasanahaar ||
He Himself does - who else should I ask? He Himself is the Forgiving Lord.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਚੁ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੧੭॥
gurasabadee mail utarai taa sach baniaa seegaar ||17||
Through the Guru's Teachings, filth is washed away, and then, one is embellished with the ornament of Truth. ||17||
