ਊਤਮੁ ਊਚੌ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਖ ॥
ootam oochau paarabraham gun a(n)t na jaanahi sekh ||
that the Supreme Lord God is the most sublime and lofty. Even the thousand-tongued serpent does not know the limits of His Glories.
ਨਾਰਦ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੁਕ ਬਿਆਸ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
naarad mun jan suk biaas jas gaavat gobi(n)d ||
Naarad, the humble beings, Suk and Vyaasa sing the Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਰਸ ਗੀਧੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੀਧੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਚੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
ras geedhe har siu beedhe bhagat rache bhagava(n)t ||
They are imbued with the Lord's essence; united with Him; they are absorbed in devotional worship of the Lord God.
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਨ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਪਾਈ ਸਰਨਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
moh maan bhram binasio paaee saran daiaal ||
Emotional attachment, pride and doubt are eliminated, when one takes to the Sanctuary of the Merciful Lord.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
charan kamal man tan base darasan dekh nihaal ||
His Lotus Feet abide within my mind and body and I am enraptured, beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
laabh milai totaa hirai saadhasa(n)g liv laai ||
People reap their profits, and suffer no loss, when they embrace love for the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਖਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥
khaat khajaanaa gun nidh hare naanak naam dhiaai ||6||
They gather in the treasure of the Lord, the Ocean of Excellence, O Nanak, by meditating on the Naam. ||6||

ਸੰਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਥਹਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sa(n)t ma(n)dal har jas kathahi bolahi sat subhaai ||
In the gathering of the Saints, chant the Praises of the Lord, and speak the Truth with love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਐ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
naanak man sa(n)tokheeai ekas siu liv laai ||7||
O Nanak, the mind becomes contented, enshrining love for the One Lord. ||7||

ਸਪਤਮਿ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਟੂਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
sapatam sa(n)chahu naam dhan toot na jaahi bha(n)daar ||
The seventh day of the lunar cycle: Gather the wealth of the Naam; this is a treasure which shall never be exhausted.
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
sa(n)tasa(n)gat mahi paaeeai a(n)t na paaraavaar ||
In the Society of the Saints, He is obtained; He has no end or limitations.
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
aap tajahu gobi(n)d bhajahu saran parahu har raai ||
Renounce your selfishness and conceit, and meditate, vibrate on the Lord of the Universe; take to the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King.
ਦੂਖ ਹਰੈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
dookh harai bhavajal tarai man chi(n)diaa phal paai ||
Your pains shall depart - swim across the terrifying world-ocean, and obtain the fruits of your mind's desires.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
aath pahar man har japai saphal janam paravaan ||
One who meditates on the Lord twenty-four hours a day - fruitful and blessed is his coming into the world.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
a(n)tar baahar sadaa sa(n)g karanaihaar pachhaan ||
Inwardly and outwardly, realize that the Creator Lord is always with you.
ਸੋ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
so saajan so sakhaa meet jo har kee mat dei ||
He is your friend, your companion, your very best friend, who imparts the Teachings of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇਇ ॥੭॥
naanak tis balihaaranai har har naam japei ||7||
Nanak is a sacrifice to one who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||7||

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਈਅਹਿ ਤਜੀਅਹਿ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
aath pahar gun gaaeeahi tajeeahi avar ja(n)jaal ||
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord twenty-four hours a day; renounce other entanglements.
ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੮॥
jamaka(n)kar johi na sakaee naanak prabhoo daiaal ||8||
The Minister of Death cannot even see that person, O Nanak, unto whom God is merciful. ||8||

ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ॥
asatamee asat sidh nav nidh ||
The eighth day of the lunar cycle: The eight spiritual powers of the Siddhas, the nine treasures,
ਸਗਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
sagal padaarath pooran budh ||
all precious things, perfect intellect,
ਕਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
kaval pragaas sadaa aana(n)d ||
the opening of the heart-lotus, eternal bliss,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੋਧਰ ਮੰਤ ॥
niramal reet nirodhar ma(n)t ||
pure lifestyle, the infallible Mantra,
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
sagal dharam pavitr isanaan ||
all Dharmic virtues, sacred purifying baths,
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ ਬਿਸੇਖ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sabh mahi ooch bisekh giaan ||
the most lofty and sublime spiritual wisdom
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
har har bhajan poore gur sa(n)g ||
these are obtained by meditating, vibrating upon the Lord, Har, Har, in the Company of the Perfect Guru.
ਜਪਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥
jap tareeai naanak naam har ra(n)g ||8||
You shall be saved, O Nanak, by lovingly chanting the Lord's Name. ||8||

ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਸੁਆਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
naaraain nah simario mohio suaad bikaar ||
He does not remember the Lord in meditation; he is fascinated by the pleasures of corruption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੯॥
naanak naam bisaariai narak surag avataar ||9||
O Nanak, forgetting the Naam, he is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||9||

ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਅਪਵੀਤ ॥
naumee nave chhidr apaveet ||
The ninth day of the lunar cycle: The nine holes of the body are defiled.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
har naam na japahi karat bipareet ||
People do not chant the Lord's Name; instead, they practice evil.
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰਮਹਿ ਬਕਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਨਿੰਦ ॥
par tri ramahi bakahi saadh ni(n)d ||
They commit adultery, slander the Saints,
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਬਿੰਦ ॥
karan na sunahee har jas bi(n)d ||
and do not listen to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Praise.
ਹਿਰਹਿ ਪਰ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਦਰ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
hirahi par darab udar kai taaee ||
They steal others' wealth for the sake of their own bellies,
ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
agan na nivarai trisanaa na bujhaaee ||
but the fire is not extinguished, and their thirst is not quenched.
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਏਹ ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
har sevaa bin eh phal laage ||
Without serving the Lord, these are their rewards.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥੯॥
naanak prabh bisarat mar jamahi abhaage ||9||
O Nanak, forgetting God, the unfortunate people are born, only to die. ||9||

ਦਸ ਦਿਸ ਖੋਜਤ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਸੋਇ ॥
das dis khojat mai phirio jat dekhau tat soi ||
I have wandered, searching in the ten directions - wherever I look, there I see Him.
ਮਨੁ ਬਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੦॥
man bas aavai naanakaa je pooran kirapaa hoi ||10||
The mind comes to be controlled, O Nanak, if He grants His Perfect Grace. ||10||

ਦਸਮੀ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰ ਬਸਿ ਕੀਨੇ ॥
dasamee das duaar bas keene ||
The tenth day of the lunar cycle: Overpower the ten sensory and motor organs;
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਲੀਨੇ ॥
man sa(n)tokh naam jap leene ||
your mind will be content, as you chant the Naam.
ਕਰਨੀ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਜਸੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
karanee suneeai jas gopaal ||
With your ears, hear the Praises of the Lord of the World;
ਨੈਨੀ ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
nainee pekhat saadh daiaal ||
with your eyes, behold the kind, Holy Saints.
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥
rasanaa gun gaavai bea(n)t ||
With your tongue, sing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
man mahi chitavai pooran bhagava(n)t ||
In your mind, remember the Perfect Lord God.
